What domain should I use?
Short and on-brand. Common patterns: go.yourbrand.com (most popular, screams 'short link' subdomain), get.yourbrand.com, link.yourbrand.com, or buy a separate short domain (e.g., yourbrand.link or initials.co). If you have a 4-letter brand, a dedicated short domain like ybrand.co is cleaner than a subdomain. If you have a long brand, a 3-char subdomain (go.) is fine.
Does the custom domain need to be different from my main site?
It can be a subdomain of your main site (go.yourbrand.com works fine), but the short-link domain must not also serve your website root. CNAME-based shorteners replace whatever was at that hostname. So go.yourbrand.com is OK if nothing's there yet; yourbrand.com is not OK if it serves your homepage.
Will the SSL certificate be valid?
