One link for the App Store
and Google Play.
Print one QR code on the box and put one link in your bio, ad or email. Each phone opens its own store: iPhones the App Store, Android phones Google Play, and computers your website.
Quick answer
To use one link for the App Store and Google Play, create a short link whose destination is your website and add two device rules: iOS to https://apps.apple.com/app/id<number> and Android to https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=<package>. Track Link reads the device from the user-agent on the server and sends one redirect, with no page in between. A QR code made from the link follows the same rules on every scan. Device rules are part of Pro and above.

Taps and scans by device

Find your two store URLs
Each rule needs a store URL, and both stores use a fixed pattern with one ID in it. Most app store link generators just fill in these two patterns for you.
A URL copied from the App Store often carries a country code and the app's name, such as /us/app/your-app/id123456789. That works too; the short form is easier to check. On a phone, both stores' URLs open in the store app itself.
| Store | URL to use | Where the ID comes from |
|---|---|---|
| App Store | https://apps.apple.com/app/id<number> | The number after id in your App Store URL. App Store Connect shows it as the Apple ID under App Information. |
| Google Play | https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=<package> | Your package name, such as com.example.app, shown in the Play Console and after id= in your Play Store URL. |
How each phone reaches its store
Each rule matches the device or operating system the browser reports in its user-agent. Track Link reads it on the server and sends one redirect to the matching URL. Nothing runs on the phone, and Pro links skip the notice page, so a tap or scan lands straight in the store.
Rules are checked top to bottom and the first match wins. Anything unmatched goes to the link's main destination, usually your website with both store badges on it.
Seven more matches (Windows, macOS, Linux, any phone, any tablet, desktop and laptop, smart TV) cover apps with a desktop or TV version. Device targeting links explains all 9 and how ordering works.
| Order | Rule | Destination |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | iPhone & iPad (iOS) | https://apps.apple.com/app/id<number> |
| 2 | Android phones & tablets | https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=<package> |
| Otherwise | Main destination | https://yourapp.com |
One QR code for both stores
A printed code cannot ask which phone is scanning it, so this is where one link matters most. Make a QR code from the device-routed link and print that. The code holds the short link and the short link holds the rules, so iPhone and Android cameras each end up in their own store.
The rules live on the link, not in the print, so you can change them later. Move the website or add a desktop version, edit the rule, and every box and poster already printed follows.
- Packaging and inserts, read right after the customer buys.
- Business cards, posters, shop windows and event stands.
- TV ads, slides and video, where nobody can tap a link but anyone can scan.
See the iPhone and Android split on every plan
Every click and scan on a tracked link records the device type, operating system and browser, on every plan including Free, along with the time, approximate location and referrer. Point a link at your website first and you know the iPhone, Android and computer split before you print anything. Make one link per channel, such as the box, the poster and the newsletter, to compare them.
Track Link's view ends at the store. Installs are counted in App Store Connect and the Play Console, and both stores accept campaign parameters on the store URL (App Store Connect campaign links, Google Play's referrer parameter) if you want installs split by campaign there. Paste the tagged URL into the rule; the redirect keeps its query string as you wrote it.
If the app is already installed
A store URL opens the store page even for someone who has the app, where they tap Open. If your app claims its own web links (universal links on iOS, App Links on Android), you can put that web address in a rule instead, and the phone may open the app directly. Whether it does after a redirect depends on the operating system and the app the link was tapped in, so test on real phones before you print. Without the app installed, that address opens in the browser, so the page there should point to the store.
How to make one link for the App Store and Google Play
- 1Copy your App Store URL (
https://apps.apple.com/app/id<number>) and your Google Play URL (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=<package>). - 2Create a tracked link with your website as its destination. Computers and anything without a rule go there.
- 3Open the Rules tab and add two device rules: iPhone & iPad (iOS) to the App Store URL, and Android phones & tablets to the Google Play URL. Keep them above broad rules such as Any phone.
- 4Scan the link's QR code with an iPhone and an Android phone to check each opens its own store, then print or share it.
What this link does not do
- It does not count installs, and it is not deferred deep linking or install attribution. No SDK goes in your app, a new user starts on the app's first screen, and a tap cannot be matched to an install.
- It routes by device, not by whether the app is already installed.
- iPads browsing in Safari often report themselves as a Mac, because iPadOS asks for desktop websites by default. Those visits match macOS or Desktop & laptop rules, not iOS, and otherwise go to the main destination, so keep both store badges on that page.
Questions people ask
Can one link go to both the App Store and Google Play?
Yes. A device-routed short link sends iPhones to your App Store page, Android phones to Google Play and everything else to your website. It is one URL, so it fits in a bio, an ad, an email or a QR code.
How do I make an App Store link?
Use https://apps.apple.com/app/id followed by your app's number, which is in your App Store URL and shown as the Apple ID in App Store Connect. For Google Play, use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id= followed by your package name. Put both in device rules on one tracked link and share that.
Can I make one QR code for the App Store and Google Play?
Yes. Make a QR code from the device-routed link. Each phone that scans it is sent to its own store, and you can change the store URLs later without reprinting.
What happens when someone opens it on a computer?
They go to the link's main destination, usually your website. If the app has a desktop version, add a Windows or macOS rule that points to it.
Can I see how many people downloaded the app?
No. Track Link sees each tap or scan with its device, operating system, time and approximate location. Installs are counted by the stores.
Is there a free way to do this?
Device rules are part of Pro ($9.99/mo) and above. On Free you can make a tracked link and QR code to one destination, such as a page with both store badges, and see the iPhone and Android split in its analytics. Free links show a two-second branded notice before redirecting; free QR codes skip it when scanned at a normal pace.
