WhatsApp link rotator
one link, every agent's number.
Put one link in your ads, your bio and on the shop counter, and let each tap open a WhatsApp chat with one of your agents. You choose the numbers and how big a share each one gets, and the link stays the same when the team changes.
Quick answer
A WhatsApp link rotator is a short link that opens a chat with a different number on each click. On Track Link you add each agent's click-to-chat link (https://wa.me/ plus the full number in digits) to a link's rotation, up to 10 numbers, and give each one a share. Every click picks a number at random in proportion to the shares, inside a single server redirect, and the link's results table counts clicks per number. Rotation is part of Pro and above.
wa.me/91XXXXXXXXXX?text=Hi%2C%20I%20saw%20your%20ad
wa.me/91XXXXXXXXXX
wa.me/91XXXXXXXXXX
https://wa.me/91XXXXXXXXXX?text=Hi%2C%20I%20saw%20your%20ad
The ?text= part fills in the message. The customer taps send, and the chat starts with that agent.
Typed in for them, not sent yet
Why teams share one link across several numbers
One WhatsApp number works until one person can no longer answer every chat. Teams that sell and support on WhatsApp, common in India, Indonesia, Latin America and Africa, reach that point once ads or a busy shop start sending chats their way.
Giving each agent their own link does not help, because an ad, a flyer or a bio can only carry one. A rotator keeps the single link and shares the chats out behind it.
- Click-to-chat ads and bio links, where every lead should reach a salesperson instead of queueing behind one phone.
- A QR code on a shop counter, menu or flyer that customers scan to order or ask a question.
- A support link in your website footer or order emails, shared across the support team.
Build each agent's wa.me link
Each number in the rotation is a WhatsApp click-to-chat link: https://wa.me/ followed by the full international number in digits only. Put the country code first, and leave out the plus sign, spaces, dashes, brackets and any leading 0 of the local number.
To open the chat with a message already typed, add ?text= and the message, URL-encoded so spaces become %20 (the URL encoder does this). A different message per campaign, such as "Hi, I saw your poster", tells the agent where the customer came from.
Test each link on your own phone before adding it. A three-agent team in India might look like this, with the Xs replaced by real digits:
| Label | Destination | Share | Of all clicks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Senior agent | https://wa.me/91XXXXXXXXXX?text=Hi%2C%20I%20saw%20your%20ad | 2 | about 50% |
| Agent 2 | https://wa.me/91XXXXXXXXXX | 1 | about 25% |
| Agent 3 | https://wa.me/91XXXXXXXXXX | 1 | about 25% |
How the chats are shared out
Each click picks a number at random, with the odds set by the shares, so in the table above the senior agent gets about half the clicks. The pick happens on the server, and Pro links redirect with no notice page, so the customer goes from the short link straight into WhatsApp.
It is weighted random, not round-robin: ten clicks can easily land 6, 3 and 1, and only over a few hundred does the split settle near the shares. It is not sticky either, so a customer who taps the link again next week may reach a different agent. Replying in their existing chat keeps them with the same person.
On a phone, a wa.me link opens the WhatsApp app; on a computer, WhatsApp Web or the desktop app. To send computer visitors to a contact page instead, add a desktop device rule. Device rules are checked before the rotation.
Add or remove an agent without changing the link
When someone joins, add their number. When someone leaves or goes on holiday, remove theirs. The short link, and every QR code, ad and bio that points at it, keeps working, and the change applies from the next click. Every number you add is checked against Google Web Risk before it is saved, the same as the link's main destination.
A rotation holds up to 10 numbers. A bigger team can use one link per campaign or region, each with its own results.
What the results show
The link's results table has one row per number, under the label you gave it, counting the clicks sent to each. Removed numbers keep their past clicks, marked as removed. Rows are kept per destination URL, so changing an agent's prefilled message starts a new row.
The table's conversion columns only fill in for pages with conversion tracking, which a WhatsApp chat is not, so for a chat rotator read the clicks column.
The link's click analytics add the time, approximate country, region and city, device, operating system, browser, referrer, language and UTM parameters of every tap. That shows which hours and which posts bring the most taps, and so how many agents to have on at once.
How to set up a WhatsApp link rotator
- 1Write each agent's link:
https://wa.me/and the full number with country code, digits only. Add?text=and a URL-encoded message if you want one already typed. - 2Create a tracked link with one of those wa.me links as its destination, or open a link you already share, and go to its Rules tab.
- 3Add a rotation. Paste each agent's link, name it after the agent and set a share. Give a senior agent a bigger share to send them more chats.
- 4Share the short link or its QR code, and add or remove numbers as the team changes.
What a WhatsApp rotator does not do
- It counts clicks on the link, not chats. Track Link cannot see whether a message was sent, what it said or whether anyone replied.
- It never sees the customer's phone number. That reaches your agent through WhatsApp, not through the link.
- It does not know who is online or off shift. To take an agent out, remove their number.
- It is not round-robin and not sticky, and one link holds at most 10 numbers.
Questions people ask
What is a WhatsApp or WA link rotator?
One short link that opens a WhatsApp chat with a different number on each click. You choose the numbers and each one's share of the traffic; customers only ever see the one link.
Can one link open multiple WhatsApp numbers?
Yes, one number per click. Add each number's wa.me link to the link's rotation, up to 10, and every click is sent to one of them as an ordinary chat.
How do I make a wa.me link for each number?
Write https://wa.me/ and the full international number in digits: country code first, no plus sign, spaces, dashes or leading 0. To prefill a message, add ?text= and the URL-encoded message, for example ?text=Hi%20I%20want%20to%20order.
Is a WhatsApp number rotator round-robin?
Not this one. Each click picks a number at random, weighted by its share, so short runs can lean one way. If agents must take strict turns, a random rotator is the wrong tool.
Can I send one agent more chats than the others?
Yes. Shares are relative, so an agent on 2 gets roughly twice the clicks of an agent on 1.
Does it work with WhatsApp Business numbers?
Yes. wa.me links work for both WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business numbers, and a team can mix the two in one rotation.
Is there a free WhatsApp link rotator?
Rotation is part of Pro ($9.99/mo) and above. On every plan, including Free, you can make a tracked link to a single WhatsApp number and see its clicks. Free links show a two-second branded notice before opening WhatsApp; Starter and above go straight through.
