Link in bio click tracking
every platform in one report.
Instagram, TikTok and your bio-link tool each count taps in their own dashboard, and none of them adds up the others. Put a tracked link in your bio and every click lands in one report, split by platform, with the time, rough location and device behind it.
Quick answer
To track clicks on a link in bio, replace the bio URL with a tracked link, and add a tag such as ?utm_source=instagram or ?utm_source=tiktok to the copy you paste on each platform. Every tap is then recorded with its time, approximate country and city, device and platform, in one dashboard. If you use a Linktree-style page, put a tracked link behind each button too. Nobody can show you who clicked: not Instagram, not Linktree, and not us.

What each dashboard counts, and what it misses
Instagram's insights for professional accounts count taps on your profile link. TikTok and YouTube count clicks in their own analytics, and bio-link tools such as Linktree count activity on their own page. Each one only sees its own slice.
A tracked link sits between the tap and the page it opens. Whichever app the tap came from, it lands in the same report, so every platform is counted the same way.
| Where the number comes from | What it counts | What it can't tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Platform insights | Taps on your profile link inside that one app | Clicks from your other platforms, or what people did after the tap |
| A bio-link page's analytics | Activity on that page | Anything that happens outside the page |
| A tracked link | Every click on that link from any app, plus the conversions you report | Who the person is |
One bio link, tagged per platform
You don't need a separate link for every profile. Create one tracked link, then add a utm_source tag to the copy you paste on each platform. Track Link reads the tag on every click and splits the report by source.
The tag matters because apps often hide where a visitor came from, so a tap from Instagram and one from TikTok can look identical. A utm_medium of bio also keeps profile clicks apart from your Story or post links.
Here is one link set up for four profiles. Keep tags lowercase, because Instagram and instagram count as two sources; the UTM builder checks the format for you.
- Instagram bio:
go.yourbrand.com/bio?utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=bio - TikTok bio:
go.yourbrand.com/bio?utm_source=tiktok&utm_medium=bio - YouTube channel links:
go.yourbrand.com/bio?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=bio - X profile:
go.yourbrand.com/bio?utm_source=x&utm_medium=bio
What you see for each click
Each click is recorded with what the visit itself shows. Nothing in the report names the person, and IP addresses are not shown to you.
- The time of the click, so you can see whether taps follow a new post or trickle in all week.
- Approximate country, region and city, worked out from the visitor's network.
- Device type, operating system and browser.
- The referrer when the app passes one, and the browser's language.
- Your UTM tags, broken down by source, medium and campaign.
- Total clicks and unique visitors, side by side.
- Sign-ups and sales, if you add conversion tracking to your site, each tied to the platform that sent the click. This works on the free plan.
If you already use Linktree or another bio page
Track Link is not a bio-page builder, and you don't have to leave the one you use. Tracking works in two layers around it.
First, point a tracked link at your bio page and put it, tagged per platform, in your profiles. That counts visits to the page by platform. Second, replace the URL behind each button you care about with its own tracked link. That counts which buttons get clicked.
Two things to know. The platform tag on the outer link does not carry through the bio page to the buttons, so button clicks are counted per button, not per platform. And each tracked button uses one of your links; the free plan includes 10 tracked links. For a side-by-side look, see Track Link vs Linktree.
How to track clicks on your link in bio
- 1Create a free Track Link account with Google or Microsoft sign-in (no credit card), then create a tracked link to the page your bio should open.
- 2Copy the link once per platform and add a tag to each copy, for example
?utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=bioand?utm_source=tiktok&utm_medium=bio. - 3Paste each copy into that platform's profile link field. If you use a bio page, aim the tracked link at it and put a tracked link behind each button.
- 4Open the link's analytics and read the source breakdown to compare platforms.
What bio link tracking can't tell you
- Who clicked. Each click carries a time, an approximate location and a device, never a name, handle, email address or IP address.
- Exact location. City is an estimate from the network and can be off, more so on mobile data or a VPN.
- Free links show a 2-second branded notice before opening the page. Starter and above redirect instantly, which matters for a link that sits in a bio all year.
- A count that matches Instagram's to the click. Each side counts at a different moment, and Track Link leaves out known bots and link-preview crawlers.
- The free plan includes 1,500 clicks per month and 7 days data retention; past the allowance links keep redirecting, as plans and limits explains.
Questions people ask
How do I track clicks on my link in bio?
Replace the URL in your bio with a tracked link to the same page. Every tap is then recorded with its time, approximate location and device. Add a different utm_source tag on each platform and one link reports clicks per platform.
Can you track Linktree clicks?
Yes. Linktree counts activity in its own dashboard. To see those clicks next to your other links, point a tracked link at your Linktree page and put a tracked link behind each button you want counted. The page itself stays as it is.
Does Linktree show who clicks?
No tool shows you named people for a click: not Linktree, not Instagram, and not Track Link. What you can see is how many clicks there were, when, from roughly where, and on what device.
How can I see how many people clicked my link in bio?
On a professional Instagram account, your insights count taps on the profile link. A tracked link counts clicks from every platform in one place and shows total clicks and unique visitors, so you can tell 100 taps from one person apart from 100 different people.
Will adding UTM tags break my bio link?
No. Track Link reads the tags, records them with the click and passes them on to the page the link opens, so your site's analytics sees the same source. If the destination URL already has its own utm_source, your site keeps that value and Track Link's report still uses the platform tag.
Can I change where my bio link goes without editing my bio?
Yes. Edit the link's destination in the dashboard and the next tap goes to the new page, while the URL in your bio stays the same. With a custom domain, that URL can carry your own name, such as go.yourname.com/bio; the free plan includes 1 custom domain.
Is link in bio tracking free?
Yes. The free plan includes 10 tracked links, 1,500 clicks per month and per-click country, device and UTM data. You sign up with Google or Microsoft, and no credit card is needed.
